Athletics Track & Field Academy
Whether your child is new to athletics or regularly competes, our academies will benefit them.
Our academies are for those in school years 3 to 12 (age 7 to 18) and cover various
disciplines with progression throughout the days.
They are led by Matt who is an experienced athletics coach qualified to event group level. He
is also a strength and conditioning coach, personal trainer and triathlon coach. He has worked
regularly with children of all ages which gives the experience and know how to make sure
your child is getting the highest level of training. Matt will be assisted by other experienced
coaches who have been selected based on their professionalism and coaching skills.
The academies will take place at Blackbridge Jubilee athletics track, Podsmead Road,
Gloucester on the dates below. There is a limit to the number of athletes at each one so
please reserve your space in advance. Payment is due 14 days prior to the start of each

Event Focus
Our academies will cover a large range of track and field events. Some will be
covered in more detail at each academy in order to progress these events
throughout the day/s. This is to give the athletes a chance to see and feel real
improvement in these events. It also gives variety throughout each academy over the
year as we will focus on different main events at each one. Each academy will always
progress a jumping, running and throwing event and over the year will cover -
•
Warming up & Cooling down
•
Stretching
•
Running technique
•
Relay baton changes
•
Speed work
•
Sprint hurdle technique
•
Jumping technique for the long and high jump
•
Shot put, javelin and discus throwing technique
•
Physical preparation
We strongly believe that all children can enjoy sport and exercise and we provide a
supportive environment to make this possible. We keep our group sizes at a low
number per coach so every athlete gets the maximum amount of attention.
Additional Information
All athletes need to be signed in and out at the beginning and end of the day by their parent or guardian. Please let us know if your child has any
particular things to be aware of with regards to drop off and collection.
All athletes need to be dressed appropriately for carrying out sport and for the weather (shorts/jogging bottoms, t-shirt/training top, trainers, warm
over clothing) and are welcome to bring spikes and other event specific footwear.
The Academy will cater for all skills and abilities. All athletes will be trained to the level that is appropriate for them. Even if they’ve never seen some of
the events or been on an athletics track before they are welcome. Those who are experienced and skilled will also be challenged and learn.
We make time for breaks and a lunch break. Athletes need to have drinks bottles with them (these can be refilled) and lunch and snacks. There aren’t
any facilities for cooking food so a packed lunch is recommended.
All coaches are DBS checked, insured and experienced in any event they are coaching.
Payment is due 14 days prior to the start of the academy and is non-refundable. Payment can be made via bank transfer.
A physical activity questionnaire and emergency details form needs to be completed 14 days prior to the academy start day. This will be emailed to
you on booking.
The academy can only be booked for the full duration, not just one of the two days.
